Over the decades, I've done comic book, comic strip, single panel, and cartoon cover work.
When a cartoonist works within clients' parameters for so long, he/she faces the danger of unconscious restrictions. You come to censor yourself. It's a tricky feat to access the edge within, to still be openly honest. Creating oatmeal is better left to the cooks.
Most often, my annual New Year card is a cartoon. these are hard - there's always so much I wanna say. One year it shipped so late that it was a Robt. E. Lee birthday card - Feb. 14th.
